PFA 018: Show notes
On today’s show, we will be talking about the 11 most important rules to be awesome everyday.  I think we all need a bit of awesome from ourselves and from other people everyday, so this overview of these 11 things should get you going.  I will be going into more detail on these 11 rules over the next few episodes of the Prepare For Awesome podcast.

However, I just want to say a huge thanks to all of our guests on the show so far including our guest from the last episode, Stephen Light.  I really enjoyed talking with Stephen and getting his take on things.  I trust you to have benefited as much as I have from our special guests.  Each of them has brought unique perspectives to life and business and have been of great value.
I am equally looking forward to posting the interviews from the other guests I have already interviewed as well as those I have lined up.  There as some really exciting episodes coming, so stay up to date by subscribing to the channel via your favourite platform.
The word AWESOME has a number of meanings and is used in many different contexts.
It is often used to describe things like:
An awesome building
Awesome responsibility
An awesome sight
But today, this podcast is not about things.  Its not about buildings.  This podcast is about you and your unique and individual awesomeness.
But here is what the word awesome means to me –
Very impressive
However, Awesomeness doesn’t just happen.  Awesomeness takes preparation, adaptation, work, energy and effort.
What I am really saying is that if you want to be excellent in your work or business, remarkable in your relationships, impressive in your results, exciting in your life, that is, if you want to be AWESOME, you need to be continually and daily working on yourself.  Daily working to develop better skills, better habits, better methods of doing stuff.
So what does awesome look like?
Now you are probably thinking I am going to talk about the bloke from Microsoft or Facebook or from Tesla and you would be wrong.
Why?  Because AWESOME looks just like you!
You see awesomeness is not about your university degree, your PhD or your education.  Those may impress a few people some of the time, but not all of the time.  Some of the most remarkable people around the world have had little to no education and yet had an enormous impact on the lives of millions of people.
Awesomeness is not about your life’s experience or how many times you have been around the block.  It’s not about your title, rank or social status.
Awesomeness is not about how many patents you have or the programs you have invented.  It is not about the millions you have in the bank, the car you drive or the clothes you wear.
Awesomeness is about how you transform yourself daily to be better than your previous best.  Awesomeness is about what you are becoming as you continually grow and develop.
Its about how you make people feel even after you have left them.
Awesomeness is about you becoming excellent, exciting, remarkable, impressive, unique, outstanding.  It’s about taking responsibility for yourself, your attitude, your actions and your results.
Less about blaming the sun, moon and stars.  Less about blaming your upbringing, less about blaming the government, less about blaming wages or the amount your clients are willing to pay.
So here are the 11 most common rules I have found awesome people follow from observing and working with people over the past 30 years.
There is a massive and growing bank of research which shows how important a growth mindset is to you and your future success.  In the next episode of the Prepare For Awesome podcast, we will dive deeper into the differences between a growth and a fixed mindset and we will see how they affect you in every area of your life.
Set the standards
If you want to be awesome, then you need to set the standard you are willing to stretch forward toward.  You set the bar as high as you want and my suggestion is, if you are continually growing and developing your skills, ability, knowledge, then you need to be continually pushing that bar or standard higher.
Ignore the little man
I have borrowed this title from Evan Carmichael, whom I interviewed on the show a few weeks ago.  Here’s a truth – there will always be those people who want to pull you down to their level.  They are the people who say you can’t do this or that.  You can’t become this or that.  They are the negative people in the world.  They are also those people who have an opinion and believe their opinion is the gospel truth.  Just ignore them.
Respect other peoples efforts
As a counter balance to the previous rule, respect those people, whether they are successful or not, who try, who give it everything they have.  Those people who may not do it your way, but are willing to try anyway.  Respect them and their efforts.  You never know what tomorrow holds for them or for you.
Embrace failure
Accept the fact that not everything will work out as you have planned or thought it might.  There will be big and small moments throughout your life when you fail.  Accept it. learn from it and move forward.  Don’t fear failure.  Accept and embrace it.
Work Smart and Work Hard
We have all heard that we should work smart not hard.  Well that is a fallacy.  Work smart and hard until you don’t have to work hard any more.  The idea of working smart is good, but you have to work hard until you get to that place of working smart.  However, if you work hard and smart, you will get there a heck of a lot quicker.
Be self-aware
We have all had those cringe moments when someone in the group says something and you wish for their sake they had not or been to an event where the speaker has droned on and on almost killing you with boredom.  Being self-aware will prevent you from being that person.  Be aware of your words and their effect on other people.  Be aware of your actions and your attitudes and their effect on you and those around you.
Create your dream and follow your passion
Life can’t be about every day going off to a job you hate, to spend the day with people you generally don’t like, get home after your kids have gone to bed, only to do it all over again tomorrow.  There has to be a purpose to your life.  When you know what that is, then do whatever you do to make that purpose a reality.
Be the role model you would want to follow
We have all heard that we should find a role model and while that is good, I think it is better if you become the role model you would follow.  Become the person who inspires you to become better, strive higher and push on further.  That way you will always be competing with yourself and never be trying to meet the standards you think other people set for you.
Continuous personal development
To be awesome everyday takes effort and hard work.  It is not a once off deal.  You know, take these 3 pills and you are good to go.  It does not work like that.  It is the continual process of daily working to develop better skills, better habits, better methods of doing stuff.  This is a lifestyle change.
Have faith
We can all do with a little faith.  But I am not talking about religious faith.  I am talking about faith in yourself, faith in the abilities you have within you, faith in your ability to think better thoughts, have a better attitude, take better actions and ultimately produce better results.
So over the next few episodes, I will be digging into each of these areas and will be establishing a great foundation on which to build your awesomeness.
So that it for this episode.  Thanks for listening.  I look forward to chatting with you again in the next episode.
