How to position your Business For Audacious Growth.

Knowing how to position your business is key to any growth #strategy, particularly Audacious Growth.

If I say the words, “instant photo”, most people over the age of 60 would immediately turn their thoughts to the point-and-shoot Kodak Instamatic from the 60’s and 70’s.  Most people under the age of 30, would immediately think of the latest camera on the new #iPhone or Samsung and how quickly they could get the picture posted on Instagram.

Each of these companies were, and still are, successful in positioning themselves and their products for #growth into a specific market and market environment.  Their message establishes their uniqueness within that environment.

Research shows, the average consumer will be subjected to upwards of 3000 marketing messages every day, depending on how you define and measure exposure to messages.  And this number has steadily been increasing over the past few years.

So how, in this ever increasingly noisy and busy marketplace, do you do what Apple or Samsung and thousands of other companies have done?

If you look at the numbers and charts, you will very quickly see that both of these companies have, through good and bad times, been on a continuous growth path and it is all down to their positioning.

The fact is that the only real measure for growth is growth.  Growth in profitability,  growth in your balance sheet, growth in your people both in numbers and skill.  Growth in your market share and growth in your impact or influence in that market.  These are all measurable and definable.

Here are 3 tips to help get your business positioned for long-term sustainable #growth, which goes beyond cost-cutting and staff downsizing.

  • Identity – Begin drafting a positioning statement by knowing your identity.  Apple are very clear about who they are, what they do and what represents their values. Who are you?  What does your business stand for?  What are the problems you solve for your prospective clients?  What are the values which define your business?
  • Secret Ingredient – What makes you unique and causes you to stand out from the crowd in this noisy space?  Harland Sanders built a global giant in his 11 herbs and spices.  It has become one of the greatest marketing successes in business history.  Apple and Samsung have built their brands on their secret sauce.  So what is yours?  What is the ingredient you can build your growth around?
  • BelieveBelieve you have what it takes to grow as a person and to grow your business.  Believe in your plans and your people.  Believe in the integrity of your market.  Without believing you will not have the right attitude or take the right actions.

Don’t ‘try’ to grow your business.  You either do it or you don’t!  ‘Try’ is an excuse waiting to become reality.  Sort out your identity, understand your secret sauce and believe.

OK! So now it’s your turn.  It would great to hear your business growth stories.  Please post them in the comments section below.
